The poet, playwright, painter, musician, singer and teacher Jean-Pierre Basilic Dantor Franck Étienne d’Argent, known as Frankétienne, was honored in his absence, this Thursday, March 17, 2022, by the International Organization of La Francophonie (Oif) and the Swiss Embassy in Haiti, as part of the Francophonie fortnight, observes the online agency AlterPresse.

“Monument, great man, monster (beautiful sense of the term), complete artist, living legend”.

It is in these terms that the Beninese, Dr. Emmanuel Vidjinnagni Adjovi, Director of the Oif Regional Office for Caribbean countries and Latin America, the Canadian Ambassador to Haiti, Sébastien Carrière, and the director of the Francophonie University Agency (Auf) for the Caribbean, Saulo Neiva, praised Frankétienne.

“He is a large format artist, whom we considered important to celebrate in his lifetime. He is not in a state to be with us, as we would have liked. He asks me to tell you that he is with us and happy that we think of him during his lifetime (…) as some wait for people to die to celebrate them, ”said Dr. Emmanuel Vidjinnagni Adjovi.

Frankétienne has never left Haiti and has endured all the socio-political crises in the country of the dictatorship, to date, he underlines.
