Haitian writer Odette Roy Fombrun has died, officials of the Foundation that bears her name have announced.
“The Odette Roy Fombrun Foundation is sad to announce the departure for the beyond of its president and dean, Odette Roy Fombrun”, can we read this Friday morning on the Facebook page of the institution.
Born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, on June 13, 1917, Odette Roy Fombrun graduated from the prestigious École Normale d’Institutrices (1935) and studied nursing in the United States.
Prolific author Madame Fombrun, after an exile of about 27 years, opened the first kindergarten in Haiti and contributed significantly to the drafting of the 1987 constitution.
